An amazingly sweet round up of your Kolkata trip! While the singer certainly did a great job I am surprised that you didn’t take the mike considering you are such a lovely singer yourself! I think the expression on Geetha Aunty’s face as you very slyly went through your sweet cravings would have been priceless!

Haha! I did actually sing bhajans at the RadhaGopal mandir surrounded by all the ladies joining in chorus.

A very sweet Sunday read. I may need to get my sugar tested just from reading it!

Loved how you sweet-talked your way through and turned the bittersweet battle with sweets into pure literary mithai. It’s so true, for many, the struggle isn’t just about resisting dessert but learning to balance life’s sweetness with discipline, exercise, and a pinch of humour. You’ve captured that beautifully.

Thank you very much Damandeep. Much appreciate your equally sweet comments.

Loved the descriptions and photos!. A good way of exploring culture is the cuisine. I'm sure with your sense of discipline, you will get back the lost ground and balance the sweet equations.

Thank you for so sweetly reassuring me:)

I can only say - " come to Kochi, I will serve you home made Patishapta and Narkel Naadu" . We do have an outlet here called " Bikash Babu Sweets" . There kheer kadams are good. But Patishapta needs to be home rolled, as it's basically a " Pithe " ( bengali for dumpling , I suppose). This certainly can add to your list😀

Thank you very much Papia. If I happen to visit Kochi, I will give you advance notice so that you can roll out Patishapta.

My dear friend (in law) 😏

All I can say from reading your interesting, but amusing, update is that the magnitude of the cloud burst that hit Kolkata pre Puja, would be proportionate to the sugar burst that hit your digestive system during the Puja. 😂

If you've not felt anything different after this trip then you are still "my nice guy"..... nothing bitter, nothing sweet. 😉👍

Cheers maan! 🍻 Denz

I laughed so much to read your list of Bengali sweets, the ticking off in the list and your comments on each of them. Only you can make a list of sweets and make it also humorous! If you had added the way Bengalis pronounce the names of these sweets, that would be the icing on the cake (another sweet mentioned, I can see my HBA1C going up here). Thanks for another refreshing cuppa this Sunday.

You have sugar quoted your Betterhalf as - *she lectured me, and did not sugar-coat her words*

yes, the list of sweets is long enough for making a note of and devour in my next visit there - though i do believe that Rosogolla is from Odisha and not a Bengali sweet! (as i have heard so from my colleague from Kolkata)
