Very well written. I had drafted a living will for a client about 5-6 years ago as she wanted to do so as to control her decisions, if she is unable to make decisions.
As part of planning for future, we have been toying with the idea of getting a home in a senior citizens condominium but have not got around to it. Your writing has again put me in the "put it into action" mode.
Your "go fly a kite" sounded so bindaas that it left me grinning. Waiting for the next filter cuppa :)
Prasanna, your description of Sankranthi and living wills is informative , simple as in within reach of lay persons, analytical and highly praise worthy! Coming from you Prasanna, this was anticipated. I eagerly await more! " Dil mange more"🙏
I read with great interest your piece on the concept of Living Will. I just can’t understand why a bill, though proposed, has still not become law. In a country as big as ours, so many citizens are dying each passing day - many who would have benefited from such a law. Each passing day is thus a day too late for many. In any case I am happy it’s being considered, but as they say justice delayed is justice denied. I do have some personal doubts on the manner of how it is done, but before that, I will need to have a more patient and close reading of the material so thoughtfully included by you in Filter Coffee. I must confess that I didn’t know a Bill was being considered and it certainly is required.
I have also been often thinking about living as a very old senior citizen but the one thing that keeps me from planning for the same is that, I understand, that most senior citizens home don’t have any tie up with hospitals in case of a medical need and the few that have could be tied up in a way that could drain the senior citizen of his last resources in terms of finance. I know that such worries should not preclude you from planning for the future. Your piece will certainly make me start thinking about the need once again and probably induce me to start actively pursuing the matter through to a conclusion. Thanks again to you Pras for that.
