Congrats on the anniversary edition of FC . It’s great to ponder on the insights present in every cup of FC !
When u delve into it, Choices are available 24/7 - some slip by unnoticed , unrecognised and unwanted. But we also do pick options without realising we have made a tremendous choice or a really bad one . Only time will tell!
Last but not least I’d like to mention the “….Or else …. Which really confuses me …that is definitely one where u have no choice 😄
Mr. Pras has beautifully presented the importance of freedom to choose. After my engineering, I was offered a position by M/s. Phillips in Holland. But the offer came too late as I was already commissioned in the Navy and I could not exercise the choice.
When I was I Cochin in1980,Navy was vigorously trying to extend Naval Airport and also use of Thevara Canal to bring in submarines. To accomplish this, 100 year old Thevara bridge had to be demolished. We sought advice from a visiting senior officer who was known for his wit and wisdom. He suggested two choice, the correct one and the best one. One was to go through proper channels which may work and may take decades. This is the correct choice. The second choice was for the underwater demolition team to have a practice drill which goes wrong and the bridge gets demolished. Of course there will be hue and cry and consequences. But you will achieve your objective. This is the best choice.
Even after 40 years, the bridge is still there!
Of course, what I have for dinner is Hobson`s choice.
FC is one year young. Many happy returns of the day. An accomplishment that needed making a choice, either doff my cap or raise a cuppa of FC. Since the choice of writing on choice was supposedly my prompting, I decided to do both 😊
Our today and now is a journey of innumerable choices we made all along. Choices we made ourselves or those that were made for us by others. With some we are happy the way it turned out and with others we regret and wish it was done differently. Out of the many choices we made some were life changing and some others had the potential to change our lives but we missed. Similarly, opportunities that came our way and what we did with it. Whether we grabbed the opportunity and benefitted from it or we let it pass or even messed it up. Some had the courage to change course or just learnt to live with it. However inconsequential it is thinking about it now as they are all in the past. Since every moment of living offers a choice, to make merry rest of the journey is now my considered choice.
Lastly, just another choice, ie not to let the author hog all the lime light for himself. Compliments to the backroom guys and gals for so promptly serving FC dot at sunrise these last 52 Sundays ! Cheers !!
As always ver interesting. Sometimes you are so spoilt for choice that you wonder if your choice was indeed the right one. In such circumstances, would Hobson's choice be better?
Anniversary wishes on this wonderful series that you brew!
Anniversary wishes...Some of the topics you pick on to write is so common in life one would never dwell on it ordinarily, but when you elaborate on it , somehow gets you thinking about it more and more. Thank you Prasanna for a treat every Sunday. There is one more 'or' which occurred to me and that is while filling in bank application for a joint account.....not very pleasant when it comes to the column 'either' 'or' (survivor)...gets you thinking who'll be the chosen OR...
The subject of or is indeed a great one considering the many options one is offered in life. In many instances it could be even a Hobson's choice. or as you say some thing that puts you on the ‘Horns of Dilemma’
Many of you must heard of the now familiar joke which uses the word or :
A US senator was walking one night in the walkway of a park when suddenly a crook emerged from the shadows brandishing a pistol saying " Your money or your life" The senator responded " Don't you know me. I am your senator" To which the crook retorted " In that case, it's my money or your life."
Wonderful article sir on all types of conflicts we face in our daily life…. Thinking about it… i would like to share a recent incident on which vaccine should be taken?
Should I go for covishield or Covaxin or wait for Sputnik to come 😄it was really a tough time choosing the vaccine. On top of that people and media giving out different facts about different vaccines. but thanks to my husband who finally convinced me to take covaxin and put an end to my conflict😄
As always your comments are so contextual. The anecdote about the senator was quite mirthful. Thank you Bro.

Your choice of words leaves me with no choice but appreciate your narrative.

Thank you. As for your other OR, you can put the name of the person you can bank on :)
Congratulations on the anniversary edition Pras.

Excellent example of a conflict. Thank you Yogita.
