I empathise with Andrew Cuomo, the lines were already redrawn when the hem lines went soaring up and the waist lines got accentuated.

Mr. Pras has chosen "Crossing the line" as his choice cup of coffee this week.

Some lines are physical and verifiable ; some are abstract and are in the imagination.

The territorial waters of countries are specified and are protected because of fishing rights. They are not physically marked; neither is it feasible.

For Mariners crossing the International date line is very ceremonial. This line does not pass through any land mass for obvious reasons.

Recently Gauhati High court defined the line "on reaching 80 years of age." The judgement is treatise on English Language. The court decreed that you reach 80 years on completion of 79 years and asked the government to pay 20% additional pension to the complainant on reaching 80 years and not on reaching 80 years of age. The complainant was a retired Chief Justice of the High Court. Supreme court has concurred with the judgement.

I must congratulate Pras in bringing out various angles and explanation for a simple act of crossing the line.

Yet again you have surprised me with your ability to use an expression employed figuratively and that used literally with appropriate examples. Lakshmana did not draw the Rekha on the ground. But implied a limit. But Cyril Radcliffe did mark literally on the map. To human interests both are significant. For society to live together in harmony such lines are important. To protect the dignity of women from the likes of Harvey Weinsteins’ and a neighbor who disputes the limits of property however deep the furrow lines are. Andrew Cuomo can argue that the lines have been redrawn. And China that of the McMohan line ! The only line that can be neither disputed nor redrawn is the lines of destiny and Prasanna's imagination and resourcefulness !!

In a cricket frenzy country like India crossing the line is such an important aspect of the game whether it is a run out or a no ball or scoring a four for that matter.

How many times have we heard the inimitable statement of "stay within your limits"!!

Just shows the importance of crossing the line in our day to day lives whether it is sports, workplace or our own houses for that matter.

Intriguing topic and very well explained!!

Thank you Buddu. You have given the line another dimension that I had not thought of.

Once a line is drawn, there is this 'this side' and the 'other side'.

From once seeing a world that was being increasingly integrated, of late fresh lines have emerged dividing peoples. It's happening everywhere.
