If, the duration of impact is to be the criterion, then I suppose Cinemas, though not as a rule, will be be a performing art , for many a movie leaves lasting impressions in our minds , like books. If how ever duration of performance is to be the criterion, ie just transitory, then it will only be a performing art, though virtually before our eyes and not on stage in front o us by live characters.

The term HIBERNATING ASSET, till now not known to me is very interesting, and humorous to the readers, but I suppose can be debilitation to those affected .

A mixture of many interesting things this week. From NPA’s to ‘The Covenant of Water’ to Performing Arts and why cinema is not one. Pras, is a superannuated person an NPA if she gets a pension?

Haha..I'm in your league Arun and refrained from commenting on our utility. That said, we were an asset and we are now putting to good use the residual value:)

Brilliant is not the word for your NPA!!

In my estimation my parents are rated my top PA! They have brought me to this world to witness, enjoy and suffer the World Art!!

Next is my soulmate who is the constant Artist in my life making it worthwhile!!

All along Music has been my most comforting PA!

Last but not the least is the magical Brew you have been brewing for us week in and week out, bringing in its wake the magical formula for Peace and Anticipation a very Profitable Asset indeed.

Bless you and Geetha today and through 2024!!!!!!!

I agree that SGB is s sort of performing ssset. I must say that investments In gold must often be looked as a 'store of value'. Going by the value of store of value it certainly is a refuge that one could fall on in case bad times does fall on you. But I feel that SGB is certainly an investment that pays off except of course that the redemption value can depend a lot on the value near about the redemption date. The fairly long holding period ensured that you have a great value on redemption date.

With age some Non performing CEO's can be hired in a relatively lower performance driven Chairman role. Here their goodwill/ image starts benefitting the new entity... A classic case of restructured NPA!

There is something to be said about live performance. There are no retakes. Therefore, in my book, theatre is a performing art and cinema isn't.

That was a lovely and interesting read. To segue from NPAs to non-performing offspring to performances. To answer your question as to cinema - or books, or social media, or podcasts for that matter - these are more in the realm of performative. Which is, while they are not live and performing before us, these have the power to change things through their language, whether visual or auditory or thought. Thank you for stimulating my grey cells in a different way this Sunday. Have a good year ahead!

As usual enjoyed my bed coffee literally! It came in at 5:30 am on a cold winter morning and was as usual brilliantly penned on a very interesting topic NPA we otherwise wouldn’t have given it a second thought but definitely was food for thought as many of us go through the motions of life mechanically without giving attention to what we needed to and land up with NPAs and caught on the wrong foot . I’ve two NPAs already and now in my 60s have realised however busy you may be please take pains before you realise your gains have gone in vain . I liked your quip on thieves performing on stage May steal the show ! Brilliance pouring out of every pore ! Made my Sunday fantastic as I was whining about the year having slipped away though wasn’t a good one and hoping for a fantastic 2024 and wishing you a superb one and many more FCs pouring out stronger FCs with your eloquent writing skills backed by your dertermination and will to continue to let it flow from your brilliant brewing pot !

May God bless you with good health, longevity , peace , contentment, joy , success and prosperity and may the new year be wonderful for you and your family and for the FC family too !Cheers 🥂👍👌🙏💐👏

A very interesting read! You should read HP for all its imagery as well. Watch the movies maybe? The characters, the structures etc are so engrained that whenever I went to the Bombay High Court after reading this, I felt I was in Hogwarts, and whenever I have travelled by train, I would remember the famous platform.

Thank you for recommending 'Covenant of Water'.

Interesting take about whether cinema can qualify to be a performing art. Had not thought of this. But would not performing before a camera, giving many many takes as may be needed, performing?

Thank you Rama for sharing your views. Much appreciated. As for cinema, the actors perform in front of the camera but what is projected is before an audience unbeknownst to the actors. The audience in the cinema may cry or laugh but it is still not as involving and engaging as a drama on stage. Actors in digital form and actors in flesh and blood make you emote differently. Happy to hear from you.
