Reminds me of Congress members here (USA) who are so skilled at the ‘no comments’ game that they constantly play with the persistent media. Not only ‘no comments’ to duck a question but craftily changing the topic itself. Happy that none of your readers here are taking over for you in the name of comments 😀

In these days of animated political discussion and difference of opinion among friends, I so wish people agreed to disagree, or simply used “no comments” to not get involved. That term can genuinely dissuade someone from taking an argument too far, isn’t it?

Interesting Prasanna! But what would you comment if someone asked you “ have you stopped beating your wife”? A yes would mean he was beating her abd a no would mean he continues to beat her - haha. A no comment here could indicate a disdain for the question?

I am tempted to jocularly say 'No comment' to your FC of this weekend! However, it made me think of the recent voting in the general elections in which NOTA is one of the options. This too is a way of saying 'no comment.' 'No comment' could also mean 'I'm not taking sides.' And I did really enjoy your tailpiece on the discussion about the spinster and the cat.

Is " i have nothing to say" the same as, "no comments"? While on the face of it, it may look to mean the same, in reality, often, while the former can be taken at face value, the latter often means.. " yes, i have, but dont wish to comment". Isnt it great that, in today's world, we have the emojis / smilies / animated gif etc to convey what we almost really mean ! Emotive communication has become so simple in the written format 😊

"No comments" to me is often driven by the need to "sit on the fence". In negative situations it's a good idea not to add fuel to the fire. But on matters of principles, fence sitting is a sign of weakness or plain lethargy.
