I found this so insightful....and useful!. Spring cleaning is something my family does occasionally, and we usually give away any old books or clothes to other family members, or to people who need them more than we do. Its such a great feeling when you know that your home is clean and organised.

Marie Kondos advice is excellent. I am a hoarder and it really makes sense.

It was so nice to read about Suma, Kusuma to me. I remember her work for our school.

The anecdote about Beechi made me laugh.

Well written Uncle, reminds me of our Diwali cleaning, I've watched Marie Kondo's series Tidying up with Marie Kondo, wonderful series indeed a lot of take away to not throw away but to discard and also choose to keep what we want than to get rid of.

Indian households still hold on to things which are of sentimental value than of practical use. It is good to involve children too to keep their house and room tidy, they'll realise what is important and of value or otherwise.

Hi dear Pras,

Yet another interesting material to keep one engaged.

Truely, right now I am engaged in

“ SPRING CLEANING “ Ofcourse clearing too.

Now I know what exactly to do,

May be not consulting my better half will give us ample storage space at home for future needs.

No doubt , I do carry lot of sentiments for my grand fathers and fathers collections , some have antique value and some consume storage space.

All the best to my fellow readers to engage themselves in SPRING CLEARING OR CLEANING .

Thanks again Prasanna dear .

Wow... many an ‘insightful’ n ‘lofty’ tips.. your play of words makes it an interesting read 👌...’spring cleaning’ indeed is any activity of every household.. much to the amusement of the men folk and a ‘Herculean ’ task as for the women who ‘indulge’ in it, literally😀

The moment I got ur Sunday filter coffee mail, I was reminded of how my mother used to dread to leave home ( very rare, that)on emergency calls from her native place, Leaving me and my dad ... by the time she returns, all the pickle jars( half my size in height I mean 😀..those years) would have been emptied and stacked ‘sparkling clean’.. much to her shock and dismay.. Lo! Now I feel really bad and sad☺️ .. my father’s say in the matter ..’ if

Something has not been touched/used/or even thought of should be ‘discarded ( if it’s perishable)/given or handed over to those who need it!!..

Pras, throughout the entire ‘read’ I was laughing aloud, knowing you , as a friend couple 😀..

funny,humorous, yet ‘lofty’👍

Thq for your ‘Sunday INSIGHTS’🌹

A very nostalgic narrative CM. Thank you for taking the trouble to write about your cherished memories.

The subject of spring cleaning, made me at first wonder how you would choose a subject that quiet alien (mainly due to climatic reasons) in India. But I was wonderstruck how you effectively and effortlessly linked the subject of the previous issue of FC to this one. I bow before your superior ability and “way with words” and your capability to link seemingly unrelated words together (no doubt honed from your great experience in your legal profession).

My wife often accuses me of being “a junk dealer” in my previous life, considering the fetish I have for old things, even papers ( written material) that I would rather hold them than throw them. The reason being that you never know when it could become useful. At least to me, I feel that’s true considering my many experiences, though I agree it depends on the ability to store things at home and more importantly to locate what you need when you need them.

Just as an aside, looking at the pics accompanying the text, I am tempted to think that the old radio and phone (antiques now) etc could be worth it’s weight in gold now. One thing, however, I have decided is to follow your advice next time I clean the house - keep a bottle of vodka nearby.
