Oh ! My God! CHILDREN! It is a colossal subject. This little box is too small to write comments. There are millions of issues related to them. We seem to think of them seriously when 14th of Nov approaches! Sadly so. I am confused as to which related topic I should dwell on. In a nutshell I wish our future generation a great life ahead…. Courtesy all of us.

Hi Pras ..Today there is a full page article on Deccan Herald on how todays underprivileged children do not have access to good education but are instead pushed into employment ... The biggest risk we face today is that child labour is unseen as most of the work is now done indoors viz: outsourced manufacturing activities like beedimaking, papads, banglemaking, farm labour etc etc ...I understand the economic compulsions of rural households but this logic always pushes the envelope to the next generation and the problem never gets solved ... Educating the rural children should be a national mission for everyone and I wish every corporate citizen influences action through CSR in this area .. I deeply appreciate that much is being done, but the task is so huge even now and unless there is concerted high impact action, we are only scratching the surface ....

Thanks Sir for the well articulated article and concerns on the upbringing and well- being of our children/ grandchildren especially the sexual assaults on these innocent children . These mindless selfish acts should be condemned in the strongest terms and the perpetrators should booked / charge-sheeted with harsh and appropriate punishments meted out mercilessly irrespective of their stature nor the influence they bring for less harsher punishments or their release . Being a Paediatrician all the more my heart bleeds every time I read about the atrocities committed on children and repercusssions it will have on their minds and on their future !

Ethical behaviour, moral science classes , sessions on honesty and integrity and living a life of / with dignity with moderate means and simplicity vis-a-vis comparisons with peers and yearning for higher society life without working hard oneself , quick rewards and gains versus patiently waiting for the hard - earned results of comfort and luxury should be taught in schools to inculcate correct values in young minds rather than to be dismissed in later life and condemned by many adults ( who unfortunately have not been exposed to the above sessions at home not in school) who think being righteous is being stupid and service minded with no desire or ambition to live a life of style and glamour and many times find them pitying the upright Officers who have made conscious decisions to work hard , enjoy the fruits of their labour in their 50s . Glory to such noble souls who see their children blossom well as mature, responsible, well educated , upright and honest citizens holding their heads high and with clear conscience who have never stooped low to make a quick buck unethically and who peacefully fade away post retirement into their little comfort zones, rich in experience and their hearts brimming with pride for a life well-lived . This may not be appreciated by many but truly is the essence and the mantra of a successful life lead by us and the previous generations who have held on steadfast to the values taught at home and school and are still willing to teach and share with the next generations these simple formulae provided they have the patience, faith and confidence to listen to when confused or at crossroads in life, which many a time is created/ complicated by themselves due to various distractions they are exposed/ drawn into by our society for which they may not be blamed or responsible directly . Indiscreet criticisms, artificial divisions and layers of hierarchy created by caste, creed , religion and economic status intimidating and inhibiting children to grow to their full potential are some of the evils prevailing in society even now .

I sincerely hope and pray that our children of the next generations are not exposed to such evils and even if are able to rise above petty societal restrictions and norms and grow up ignoring them and not thwart their their growth and development but soar high chasing their dreams into being fearless, responsible , self -reliant , confident, citizens with honesty, integrity and simplicity as their guiding principles who then will automatically be trusted by one and all and for themselves will be able to live anywhere in the world with dignity, love and respect and would then surely bring honour to the land they belong !

Happy Children’s day to all in this group as there is a child in each and every one of us too and let us nourish and nurture those innocent children wherever and whenever we encounter them . 👶👩‍🦰🧕👳‍♂️

I have seen from close quarters how paranoid parents are about their child’s safety until the child returns from school. Moreso when if it is a girl child. There are WhatsApp mother’s group, parent teacher group, School bus movement monitoring App and what have you. Slightest of delay in the child coming home initiates a flurry of phone calls. The scene becomes even more complicated having adolescent children. A sure recipe for premature greying ! Having a child, don’t leave it to God said a parent. Make sure you have given enough thought about the price of parenting !

Loved it Pm.. a topic certainly close to my heart! Children are so fragile these days and parents and schools seem to only protect this ..will children be able to handle failure at a later stage when they are adults? I certainly hope they can.

Thank you for saying that it’s the parent’s responsibility to inculcate manners and etiquette, some parents these days think it’s the school’s job to do so :)

The culture has certainly changed and while I see a generation that is becoming increasingly disrespectful, I also see one that is confident, unafraid to speak up and very clear with what they want!

This topic certainly strikes a chord with me as a teacher. One of the challenges is to find a deep connection with high school students post pandemic, as there are many defensive barriers in place now. Teachers have to remember that they are the adults in the students' lives and bending over backwards to build a connection through compromising on standards of behaviour is not equal to caring.
