This resonates so much with me. So many little and seemingly inconsequential interactions have taught me valuable lessons. An elderly lady was trying to put up her carry on case, with some difficulty. I asked if she needed help. “I am fine, I should be, for I packed that heavy bag myself” she said. Everytime I pack my bags, I remember that, and make sure I carry what I can lift and haul. People that come into our lives are precious, indeed!
Very true Pras . All relatives and close friends who interact with us ( not just crossing the path ) leave a lasting impression on us. As we age , it is important to constantly stay in touch with them and celebrate good moments. I remember in our quarterly get together of Brooke Bonders , one person talked negative about his old boss. Our dear TS Nagarajan told him , " You worked for 30 years ie almost 10,000 days. Of that you had bad interaction for 10 days. Forget that 10 days and celebrate happy time you spent with him on balance 9,990 days. Pearls of wisdom.
We are constantly influenced positively and negatively by those who surround us…some more than others. I recall a beautiful and gracious woman who was terribly afflicted by MS as it progressed in her body. I connected with her shortly after losing my husband. Her condition had escalated to the point that she needed total assistance as she was unable to feed her self and she had lost total control of her body but for her strained ability to talk. Yet in a discussion with her, she shared how she was the luckiest woman in the world. Her devoted husband, children and grandchildren surrounded her by love, devotion and assistance in all her needs. Her positivity set a benchmark for me, as you must be grateful for what you have and not what you don’t have. Whenever I feel down I remember her and how she wouldn’t let life’s obstacles interfere with life’s joys. We must always find the joys in life and celebrate the goodness in the world.
Fantastic read and messages "People in Our Life" Pras! I liked the way you have explained that each and every relationship teaches us some lessons, positive or negative. Good relationship inspires us positively and bad relationship teaches us some life lessons to be more careful and alert in future. My book titled "Pearls of Wisdom- Secrets of Success and Living a Quality Life" also contains a topic on Relationship and how it influences our thinking, behavior, character and provides us important lessons of life.
You are one of such person in my life, who has inspired me to always remain fast, pro-active and at the same time jovial. Your sense of humor is un-parallel. I am writing a Memoir of my life (autobiography) now and in this Memoir, I have recalled the good memories of the people whom I had worked with or been associated with and you, of-course, are one of them!
Always enjoy reading your Posts which provides many interesting insights from different a word or a pair of words or phrases chosen by you every week :)
A pathway is a series of experiences stitched together.
Following a path is a lot safer and different from creating one. The path of creation is fought with risk but fertile with a sharp learning curve, both, good and bad. Being a path follower earlier in my life taught me best practices and interaction with well healed and educated people which was awesome. Later in life tried my hands at entrepreneurship which made me realise skill sets here are dramatically different. Vaulting over hurdles in this world has been a whole lot more satisfying and helped me get a more objective assessment of myself.
Whichever path one chooses the key ingredient for success is to be a keen learner and the drive to push forward. The realization that there is no destination, just a series of experiences, keeps one going.
I think, one usually tends to value n cherish positive experiences in life a lot more than negative ones. For us to evolve and become better persons, I think, negative ones, rather REFLECTING ON THEM WITHOUT FAIL AND ANALYSING THEM TAKING LESSONS FROM THEM, play a more impt role. Reinforcing such learnings itself becomes a positive experience. to be ingrained in us as to influence our behaviour. So, negative experiences are perhaps more more impt for us to evolve, as otherwise, we could become over confident and fail to evolve into better persons.
True, Prasanna, that we learn from everyone who crosses our path, whether they have been positive or negative influences. I remember to this day, one Mr. Swamy, who worked in the gas agency - in the days when getting a gas connection was like being able to buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya! I did not have the Rs.500 deposit money to get the gas connection and told him so. He said 'No problem, I will pay it' and did so without further ado. And he did not know me, but was kind to me, a woman in distress. The goodness of human beings who cross our paths, however fleetingly, is what keeps me trusting people, despite the many bad eggs I encounter in life.

Wonderful and thought provoking note. As I read it, so many names and faces came back to life in my mind. Big thank you to Prasanna!

Thank you TK. You were sorely missed. Great observation and insightful too.
